Before you touch a single setting in Ads Manager, there's one thing worth understanding — because it changes how you approach everything in this workbook.
Most people who struggle with Meta ads spend their time obsessing over campaign structure, bid strategies, and audience targeting. Here's what the data actually shows: creative quality drives 70–80% of whether your ads work. Not the settings. Not the targeting. The ad itself — the hook, the message, the way it speaks to the person scrolling past it.
This matters because it means the work you've already done in Module 1 — the buyer research, the messaging framework, the hooks — is your real competitive advantage. No campaign structure can compensate for an ad that doesn't stop the scroll.
Keep the setup simple. Spend your energy on the creative.
This workbook covers both — a clean structure so the algorithm has what it needs, and then the ad work that actually drives results.
Finding Your Way Around — Before You Touch Anything
Meta has several different tools that look similar but do completely different things. Before you build your first campaign, make sure you're in the right place.
How To Access Ads Manager
The correct address is adsmanager.facebook.com — bookmark this now. It will save you time every single time you go to check or build a campaign.
You need to be logged into the Facebook account connected to your business ad account. If you set this up in Step 0, that's the account to use. If you log in and see an empty Ads Manager or get a "no ad account" message, you're likely logged into the wrong profile.
📍 Quick check: look at the top-left corner of Ads Manager — you'll see your ad account name and ID. If it doesn't match your business, click on it to switch to the correct account.
Ads Manager vs The Boost Button — Know The Difference
You'll see a blue "Boost Post" button on your Facebook and Instagram posts. Do not use it.
Boosting a post is not the same as running a Meta ad campaign. The Boost button gives you almost no control — no conversion tracking, no proper objective selection, no way to see whether your spend is producing actual leads or sales. It optimises for engagement (likes, reach, comments) not revenue.
Everything in this workbook is built inside Ads Manager. That's where real campaigns live. The Boost button is for getting likes. Ads Manager is for getting customers.
Ads Manager vs Meta Business Suite — Which One You're In
Meta Business Suite (business.facebook.com) is the dashboard for managing your Facebook and Instagram pages, scheduling posts, and reading inbox messages. It has a basic ads section but it's limited and not what you'll use here.
Ads Manager (adsmanager.facebook.com) is the full campaign-building interface — objectives, audiences, budgets, creatives, and reporting all live here.
If you're looking at a screen with a feed, post scheduling, or inbox — you're in Business Suite. Close that tab and go directly to adsmanager.facebook.com instead.
Add Your Payment Method
Your campaign won't launch without a payment method on file. Add it now before you start building.
📍 In Ads Manager: click the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top left → Billing → Payment settings → Add payment method.
Confirm Your Pixel Is Live
Your Meta Pixel should already be installed from Step 0 — Account Setup Guide and SOP-01 — Analytics and Tracking. If you skipped those, go back and complete them before continuing.
To confirm it's firing: install the Meta Pixel Helper Chrome extension, visit your website, and check the extension turns green.
📍 In Ads Manager: menu icon (top left) → All Tools → Events Manager. Your pixel should show a green Active status under Data Sources. Your conversion events — Lead or Purchase plus your thank-you page URL — should also show as active.
✅ Before moving on:
- You're in Ads Manager, not Business Suite
- Payment method is added
- Pixel is live and green in Events Manager
- Conversion events are active — Lead or Purchase plus thank-you page URL
You're now ready to start building. Work through the two pages below in order — creative first, campaign second. You'll need your creative assets ready before you can complete the campaign setup.
